Warwick. Meet Jasper

Main Street, Warwick, is a mecca for entrepreneurs, the occasional busker and lively window decorations.

The newest window treat is a tropical bird: Jasper, the 11-month old Scarlet Macaw.

He presides over Main Street from his customized penthouse at The Village Barkery, the pet boutique located at 29 Main St.

Jasper got his name from Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard, according to Village Barkery owner Keith Yodice.

Yodice, who owns nearby Cafe Dolce, Boneyard Cantina and Warwick Wine Bar, was hunting for a distinctive name for his colorful mascot when he asked Newhard for a name.

The mayor suggested Jasper as a tribute to Hudson River artist Jasper Cropsey, who had lived in Warwick.

“Everybody loves it,” said Yodice, who is offering a prize to the first person to coax Jasper to say his name.
