Middletown. Children’s art and creativity showcased in a Recycled Rainforest

Every year the 16 classrooms at On My Way Early Learning and Childcare Center work together to create a recycled project for Earth Day to showcase the children’s art and creativity, while keeping sustainability in mind.
Themes in the past have been Our Town, The Farm, Under the Sea, Journey to Space among others.
This year in honor of Week of the Young Child and Earth Day, every classroom collaborated to make a Recycled Rainforest.
“Using materials, we would normally discard, such as cardboard, drink containers, baby food caps and more,” said co-owner Peggy Fuentes, “the creativity was astounding as we watched the plants, animals and habitat of the rainforest come to life.
“Visiting the rainforest you will find sloths hanging from trees, gorillas, monkeys and an orangutan chilling in the jungle, an okapi grazing on some plants, red-eyed tree frogs and poison dart frogs hiding behind the foliage and snakes and lizards scurrying through the understory,” Fuentes added.
There also was a leopard family camouflaged in the shadows while jungle elephants trumpeting and butterflies flitting from plant to plant. There was even a sneaking crocodile looking for some prey.
