On Saturday, August 3, the Orange County Genealogical Society will host Dr. Vincent Cookingham, the author of “The Germond Family Murders: A Forensic Conclusion to a Cold Case,” which details the multiple murders of James (Husted) Germond, his wife Mabel, and their two children at their Dutchess County farm in November 1930.

The murders are considered one of the most famous crimes ever committed in the Hudson Valley, and even drew the attention of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the notorious Pinkerton detectives.

Cookingham has more than 50 years of investigative and forensic science experience as a law enforcement officer, corporate executive, consultant, and university professor in forensic science. He holds a PhD, with a doctoral dissertation in the forensic applications in white-collar crime, an MBA and an MA from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a BS in forensic science, and three professional board certifications.

During this free presentation, Cookingham will discuss his forensic investigation into this cold case, which led to the publication of his book.

The presentation will take place at the 1841 Historic Courthouse at 101 Main Street, Goshen, on Saturday, August 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information on the Orange County Genealogical Society, visit ocgsny.org.
