Jeffrey M. Schadt of Goshen, N.Y., a former longtime resident of Warwick, N.Y., died on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. He was 67.

Born Dec. 23, 1948, in Warwick, he was the son of Philip and Lorraine (Wisniewski) Schadt.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member and sergeant-at-arms with American Legion Post 214 in Warwick, where he also served as vice commander.

He was a sales manager with Nexans in Chester, N.Y., He was president and a member of the Warwick Fire Department, Goodwill Hook & Ladder Company, for more than 30 years; and served as vice president of the Orange County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association.

As a firefighter, he was very active in parade activities for many years and he was a member of the Tri-County Judges Association.

His family's statement reads: "Jeff was a dedicated father and a very generous friend. He was always the first to show up to help and the last to leave. As a young man, he played many sports in school and was a proud member of the Orchard Street Athletic Club. Most of all, he was a great jokester and loved to make people smile."

He is survived by his three sons, Jeffrey M. Schadt Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Commack, Christopher Schadt of Goshen and Matthew Stephen Schadt of Goshen; two grandchildren: Logan and Morgan; two brothers, James P. Schadt of Watervliet and Philip Schadt of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Arlene Schadt of Dunedin, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen.
