Like all decent Americans, the horror of these mass attacks are chilling my heart, causing me to ask: "What is happening to my country?"
A quote from the most recent edition of Discover, a science magazine: "1.625 million Americans have died from gunfire since 1968 - more than the accumulated deaths from all wars since the country`s founding more than 200 years ago."
The edition came out before the El Paso/Dayton attacks, so the numbers have gone up.
And the children from the Parkland massacre are telling it like it is.
Clearly nothing is being done to stop the slaughter.
Thank heaven that Governor Cuomo and Senator Schumer are fighting to get automatic assault weapons banned, at least in our state, because, once again, the federal Government is proudly accepting congratulations from the NRA for not fighting for the same.
This organization seems to believe that the entire Constitution of the United States is nothing more than an inconvenient backdrop for the long outdated Second Amendment, which may justify our President`s claim that mental illness is the culprit.
The ban and better background checks may not put a stop to the mass attacks, but they are a move in the right direction and we would be able to look the next generation in the eye and say we are trying to do something.
