‘We stand with the protesters’

| 01 Jun 2020 | 08:39

We share the outrage of protesters across the country. The continuing, chronic institutional racism in this country must be addressed and eliminated.

While we don’t condone violence of any type, we understand the anger and frustration that has resulted from years of abuse and murder of Black people and other people of color at the hands of those who are supposed to protect. The pain is deep and legitimate.

    We stand with the protesters.

Black communities have not received equal justice under the law for centuries. We need real consequences for those who abuse and murder.

We have seen no leadership from the White House, and notably, our GOP representatives have been silent throughout this week of turmoil. Their silence speaks volumes.

One of the most important steps we can do to change these tragic circumstances is to vote. Vote in the primaries. Vote in the general election. Make the change we need now.

Note: Vile, murderous threats against black Warwick residents have appeared on social media in the past 24 hours. They were reported to police, resulting in stepped-up police patrols (thank you, Warwick Law Enforcement) but no response or action from local government. This, too, is an outrage and an absolute abdication of responsibility.
