Warwick Town Justice Peter D. Barlet seeks your support for re-election
It has been my privilege to serve the Warwick community as the Town Justice for many years, and I will be seeking your support in November for re-election to this important position.
Throughout the years, I have attempted to administrate justice in a fair, open and straight forward manner and have involved myself in many community organizations so that I can approach the issues I confront each day with a consideration of your interests.
My attachment to this community involves not only my own activities as a local justice and practicing lawyer, but those of my parents who lived in the Village of Florida for more than twenty five years, memories of our neighbors and friends in our first home in Greenwood Lake, the experiences encountered in educating our three children in the Warwick schools, and the everyday interactions which my wife, Iris, and I make each day with each of you.
While many know me from my work in the Town Court, others know me from my work as a private attorney in the Village of Warwick for almost forty years. In fact, I am as proud of my work to restore the 1886 Excelsior Hose Company building at 6 High Street as I am of any other community service I have ever been involved in since that building reflects the spirit of our community. It is a testament to the sacrifices made each day by the men and women who volunteer their time to serve us all.
I am also proud of the work I do in the Warwick Town Court. Our local courts have a unique ability to reflect the communities they serve and to draw strength from local resources which are available to assist in their efforts.
While the list of programs developed in Warwick over the years is extensive, the one I started a few years ago stands out. It involved the necessity of having an attorney available to each party charged with a crime during an arraignment. While that might have been the law, it was difficult to implement. In response, I enlisted volunteers to ensure that every party arraigned for a crime in the Warwick Town Court (day or night) had an attorney.
Our efforts to upgrade the courthouse through grants never ends. Our ability to secure new computers and computer technology, which allowed our local court to continue to function on a virtual basis throughout the pandemic to protect all our town residents, could not have happened without a unique and unwavering commitment to improving the court’s ability to serve and reflect the public need.
In these and innumerable other ways, I remain committed to pursuing the important work we do in serving the citizens of the Town of Warwick as an independent voice for Justice.
