Arbor Day is fast approaching, and the Town of Warwick Shade Tree Commission would like to give a shout out to all of the groups planting trees around the town.
The Village of Warwick is planting 15 trees throughout the Village this week and will be holding its Arbor Day ceremony at Hallowed Ground at 11:15 am on April 30. The Town and the Village partnered on a bare root tree planting order so that both municipalities were able to purchase quality trees that were reasonably priced, essentially doubling the number of trees they were able to plant this year.
The Skylands Disc Golf Club of the lower Hudson Valley has purchased 12 trees, which will be planted at the town’s disc golf course on Union Corners Road. They’ve selected dogwoods and spruces for the course, which will enhance the course for the players and add further beauty to the park.
The Town’s Tree Commission is planting 10 trees along State School Road, along the entrance drive to Wickham Woodlands Park, with the help of volunteers from the Evolution Health Group from Pearl River. They graciously offered to help with the town’s tree planting efforts, and will devote half a day to getting an assortment of shade trees into the ground.
In addition, the Commission offered to plant trees for property owners along Canterbury Road if they purchased a tree. One homeowner took advantage of the offer, and commissioners planted five trees on his property.
And finally, our tree planting partners for the last several years, the Warwick Valley Gardeners, have enthusiastically supported both the town and village’s tree planting efforts. They purchase a tree and organize the ceremonies, adding tree planting to their beautification efforts in the town.
Thank you to all who work so hard to improve the natural environment of our town and villages.
