‘I’m confident Bob Larsen, Tiffany Howell and Bill Fanos will keep politics out of the classroom’

I write in support of change among the Warwick Valley School Board. Although I have no doubt that the current board is comprised of fine, hard-working citizens of Warwick, some of whom are friends, they must be held accountable for their unanimous March 7 vote to approve Superintendent Dr. Leach’s recommendation that Warwick residents pay a consultant nearly $10,000 to facilitate the institution of the so called “Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education” agenda.

Per its own website, CRSE promotes an ideology that contends “...within United States of America, a complex system of biases and structural inequities is at play, deeply rooted in our country’s history, culture, and institutions,” and that “this system of inequity - which routinely confers advantage and disadvantage based on linguistic background, gender, skin color, and other characteristics - must be clearly understood, directly challenged, and fundamentally transformed....”

There you have it. This is a divisive, discriminatory, completely unacceptable ideology that prejudges our children and stereotypes people based upon “skin color” and “other characteristics,” rather than the “content of their character,” as urged by the esteemed Dr. Martin Luther King. In doing so, this propaganda contravenes our great nation’s founding principle and self-evident truths that all mankind is created equally.

We need a school board that represents the true virtues of the many fine people of Warwick, a community that is quintessentially American: diverse, welcoming, benevolent and free.

Therefore, I urge the good residents of Warwick to join me in voting for Bob Larsen, Tiffany Howell and Bill Fanos in the upcoming election Tuesday May 18.

I’m confident Bob, Tiffany and Bill will keep politics out of the classroom and insure that every student has the resources they need to reach their full academic potential, without careless spending of our inflated school taxes.

Moreover, Bob, Tiffany and Bill will hold our educational leadership accountable for teaching our beloved children how to think, not what to think.

    Sincerely,

    Jeff Kellan
