Walking team to make strides against breast cancer
Monroe LifePlex Health Club is sponsoring a team to walk in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk,” hosted by the American Cancer Society at Woodbury Common on Sunday, Oct. 16. Since 1993, two million “Making Strides” walkers across the country have collected more than $130 million for research, advocacy programs, education, and patient services. The American Cancer Society reports that breast cancer will strike more than 200,000 times this year and claim 40,000 lives. However, more women are surviving breast cancer than ever before and fewer are seeing their bodies severely affected thanks to early detection and better treatments. The LifePlex LifeStriders team, open to members and non-members, plans to exceed the $3,600 contribution raised for the 2004 walk. Club members who participate and raise $50 or more will receive two additional weeks added on to their memberships. Non-members who participate and raise $50 or more will receive a free two-week membership and personal training orientation session. Walkers can sign up for the team and pick up a contribution form at the club’s front desk. On the day of the walk, Sunday, Oct. 16, registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. and the walk at 9 a.m., rain or shine. The health club is located at 785 Route 17M in Monroe.
