Teaching children fire safety

Members of the Greenwood Lake Fire Department visited Greenwood Lake schools last week as part of its activities during national Fire Prevention Week. The department also held an open house at the fire house to demonstrate various pieces of equipment and to emphasize the need to have a family exit plan in the event of a fire at home. Children also were shown how to use a fire house. In addition, a firefighter in his bunker suit and oxygen tank crawled on a classroom floor for pre-schoolers to demonstrate how to escape in a smoky room and to let the youngsters know that the man in helmet was there to help them, not scare them.
