St. Anthony Community Hospital hosts awards dinner for first responders

Warwick - St. Anthony Community Hospital recognized the emergency medical providers and first responders in its service area on Thursday evening, May 31, by joining with MedExcel USA to host a First Responder Recognition Dinner at Crystal Spring Country Club and SPA in Hewitt, N.J. Approximately 200 attendees from police, fire, and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) agencies attended the event which included a reception in the Crystal Spring Green Room followed by a dinner in the country club’s main hall. During the evening actual patient scenarios were reviewed and two families were reunited with the EMS caregivers and pre-hospital first responders who treated them in the field. “As the daughter of a firefighter,” said Leah Cerkvenik, executive vice president/administrator of the Warwick Healthcare Campus, “I was raised to believe that service to humanity is the greatest work of all. Tonight, I am indeed humbled to be with a group of individuals who live this everyday. Together we’re on a mission to build, to grow and to serve. May God bless you and keep you safe always.” St. Anthony Community Hospital Emergency Department and MedExcel USA representatives then presented “Celebration of Life” service awards to 109 individuals for their continued support, dedication and extraordinary service to the communities they serve. Special awards also were presented to several outstanding nurses from St. Anthony Community Hospital and to Dr. Dominic Cappelleri. During the presentations, Fred Bohn, whose life was saved when he was treated and then rushed to the emergency room by first responders, took the microphone to express his gratitude to all those present.
