Warwick's N.Y. Bulls beat North Caldwell at Skylands Park
SUSSEX, N.J.-The New York Bulls, Warwick’s 13U travel baseball team, raised their record to 7-0 Saturday with a 9-3 victory over the North Caldwell, N.J., Knights at Skylands Park. The Bulls are in first place in the competitive Cerbo Baseball League New 13’s All Star Division. The turning points of the game came in the second and third innings. In the second, Bulls captain and starting pitcher Nick Gurda got out of bases-loaded jams by first starting a 1-2-3 double play. Then in the third, third basemen Kyle Morgan completed an unassisted double play after he made an outstanding backhanded stab of a hard line drive down the left field line. Christian Graven and Tommy Delaney combined to pitch the final four innings and close out the victory for the Bulls. The Bulls offensive attack was led by third basemen Matt D’Ercole, who went two-for-three with three RBIs and a run scored and shortstop Jimmy Cattani, who was two-for-three, scoring twice and driving in a pair. The Bulls received contributions throughout the line-up from left fielder Alex Capiaghi (three runs scored) second basemen Vincent Ercolino (two runs scored), Sean Prell (a hit), and center fielder Michael Balacco, who had two hits and made a strong throw to gun down a Knight at third base in the pivotal third inning. Two weeks remain in the regular season for the Bulls, with the playoffs scheduled to begin on Oct. 22.
