Warwick wins Wounded Warrior Challenge

Warwick defeated North Rockland in the annual spring high school sports challenge held on Warwick Valley High School campus on Saturday, May 11.
More than $4,000 was raised for the Wounded Warrior Project as more than 400 students competed from the two schools in the name of project.
Warwick students–athletes donated $20 per person and wore the WWP T–shirt in honor of the veteran service organization.
Cindy Parsons, whose son was severely injured in Iraq, addressed the students regarding her story and the mission of the Wounded Warrior Project whose mission is to serve “veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001.”
Schools receive two points for a varsity win and one point for a junior varsity win. The Wildcats won both varsity and jv boys lacrosse and varsity and jv girls softball, jv baseball, varsity boys tennis, girls jv lacrosse and boys golf for a total of 12 points.
North Rockland edged the Wildcats in varsity baseball, varsity girls’ lacrosse and girls’ golf for 6 points.
This is the seventh year of the event and the first time the Wildcats have defeated the Section I power.
Athletic Director Gregory Sirico thanked the many volunteers who helped make the day a great event, including athletics office manager Heidi Thonus and grounds men Curtis Akacki and Herman Eurich.
