Warwick Washingtonville Ice Hockey Club heats up the ice

NEWBURGH — The Washingtonville Ice Hockey Club hosted four games at Ice Time Sports Complex the first weekend of November.
The Wizards dominated the ice with teamwork and coordinated plays, leading to wins in three of the four matches.
JV Wizard John Rufrano would be one of the players to rack up five points across two games, which included a hat trick.
Junior varsity• Led by Head Coach Chris Deftereos and Assistants Steve Den Bleyker and Chris Roe, the JV faced the John Jay Patriots in Game 1 on Saturday. Goalies Ricky Palmeri and Ryan Whitchurch would share the net throughout a penalty-intense match.
Despite a 3-2 loss, Wizards John Rufrano and Mark Ferry would not be denied goals.
• In the Game 2 against the Cornwall Dragons, these Wizards displayed teamwork and keen passing, coming in at 14-3 for their first win of the season.
The game would include hat tricks by Wizards John Rufrano and James Berry, who each would go on to score an additional goal, for a total of four each. Teammates adding points were: Cam Longo, Jesse Walker, Daniel Hewitt, Mark Ferry, Christopher Smith, and Myles McGrail.
Goalie Ryan Whitchurch would come up with 17 saves.
Varsity• Led by Head Coach Bob McGrath and Assistants Bob Eisenhauer and Jon Branch, the varsity went head-to-head against the John Jay Patriots in Game 1, winning 10-0.
With several outstanding plays, Wizards Joseph Brennan and Andrew Godfrey would skate away with a hat trick each, with teammates Tyler Schwerdtfeger, Raymond Bushey and William Connolly also burying the biscuit.
Goalie Ryan Troy would save 25 shots for a shutout.
• In the Game 2 against the Cornwall Dragons, their teamwork set fire to the ice, coming at 11-4.
Joseph Brennan would come up with another hat trick with the remaining goals scored by Wizards Andrew Godfrey, Tyler Schwerdtfeger, Russell Leiter and Jack Levitsky.
Goalie Ryan Whitchurch saved 16 shots.
EssentialsWashingtonville Ice Hockey Club is part of the Hudson Valley High School Ice Hockey Association, consisting of high school teams from Orange and Dutchess County. Its declaration of purpose provides its members will endeavor to provide for all young men and women of the Washingtonville, Warwick and a few other communities the format and opportunity to learn and play ice hockey at various age and skill levels.
