Warwick Valley youth wrestlers shine in Section 9 youth wrestling championships
CENTRAL VALLEY Thirteen Warwick Valley wrestlers competed in the Section 9 Youth Wrestling Championships, held at Monroe-Woodbury High School on Feb. 12.
A day after their high school counterparts delivered their second consecutive Section 9 tournament title, crowning five champions along the way, the youngsters followed suit with five champions of their own.
All 13 wrestlers also qualified for the New York Kids State Wrestling Championships, to be held on March 3 and 4 at Bay Shore High School on Long Island.
Taking down their initial Section 9 youth wrestling titles were Thomas Kearns (Schoolboy 136 lbs.) and Jeremy Mazzella (Intermediate 70 lbs.).
Andrew Aeberli (Novice 85 lbs.) and Andrew Wierzbicki (Novice 105 lbs.), earned their second Section 9 titles.
And teammate Nicholas Ferreira (Schoolboy 120 lbs). wrapped up his Section 9 youth wrestling career by taking down his fourth championship.
Placing second were Tyler Winters (Bantam 45 lbs.), Jordan Pinskey (Intermediate 70 lbs.) and William Noteboom (Novice 130 lbs.).
Bryan MacDougall (Novice 65 lbs.) finished third.
Placing fourth were Hunter Brown (Novice 65 lbs.) and Dylan Winters (Bantam 50 lbs.).
Gordon Brown (Schoolboy 105 lbs.) and Chris Posta (Novice 70 lbs.) placed fifth.
The team is led by Head Coach Tom Silvestri, assisted by coaches John Lindstrom, Keith MacDougall and Tony Williams.
