Warwick hockey melts the ice

    WARWICK-Fresh from successes with both its varsity and junior varsity ice hockey Teams, Warwick is a strong contender to win the Hudson Valley High School Ice Hockey Association League this upcoming season. The varsity finished 11-10 in league play and lost 2-1 in a shootout against Washingtonville in the second round of the playoffs. Five varsity players were selected to play in the All-Star game. Although not a sectioned team, Warwick Varsity played outstanding hockey against Section 9 powerhouse Monroe-Woodbury High School, and lost in the semifinals 4-3 against Section 1 Yorktown High School from Westchester County. Tryouts for the 2005-2006 season is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 7, 4 p.m. at the Sport O Rama Ice Rink in Suffern. Middle School and High School players from Warwick and Florida are encouraged to participate. Learn-to-skate programs also are available.
