Florida - The Seward Lady Spartan soccer team raised their overall record to 13-1 as they managed to top Chester, Fallsburg and Chapel Field in a very busy week. On Tuesday Florida hosted the Chester Hambletonians in a Division V contest, with the Spartans prevailing 4-0. Theresa Space powered in an unassisted goal as Florida took a 1-0 half-time lead. At half-time Lady Spartan coach Joe DiMattina stressed the need for more communication among his players. Apparently the message go through as his team registered three more goals, two more by Space and a timely goal by Mallory Matuseski off a corner kick. At Fallsburg on Wednesday, the Spartans won 7-0 in another Division V contest. Senior striker Space continued her scoring assault with three goals while freshman Jillian Collova added two more. Kylie Burnside and Sara Sciorra also scored unassisted goals. Keeper Alina Greiser notched her second shutout of the week. That shutout streak ended on Thursday against Chapel Field as Florida managed to win the close, non-league encounter 3-2. Space, with two goals, and Collova with one sparked the Spartan offense. Those goals are simply the end product of some excellent ball movement between the forwards and the midfielders. That ball movement frequently starts with the deep backs and simply flows upfield. That team effort will have to continue as the Lady Spartans seek to clinch their Division Title and move on to the Sectionals.
