WARWICK — Jordan Burton has been selected as this week’s Warwick Valley High School "Student–Athlete of the Week" under the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.
The senior cross country and track and field star has verbally committed to attend Duke University to continue his education and compete as a track athlete for the Blue Devils next fall.
Jordan is a captain of the undefeated boys cross country team, finishing fourth overall at Wavemania Cross Country Invitational two weeks ago at Sanfordville.
Jordan is an All-American in the sprint medley with an 800M split of 1:51:99 and a member of the state champion 4 x 800 meter team.
Jordan is an excellent student whose overall average is a 97.72. He is ranked 28th in his class while taking a challenging course load including AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Government and AP English.
He also has been recognized as a NYSPHSAA Scholar – Athlete every season of his high school career.
Jordan is the son of Harold Burton and Arlene Castro of Warwick. He has two sisters: Serena is a ninth grader and Sabrina, is a 2011 graduate of Warwick who attends Mercy College.
