Bill Volpe Golf Classic to raise money for people with developmental disabilities

Bill Volpe, who died last September, was an outstanding advocate for Orange AHRC (now The Arc Sullivan-Orange Counties) since the 1960s. All of the proceeds from the golf tournament named after him, which continues to be held in his memory, will benefit people with developmental disabilities.

This year's Bill Volpe Golf Classic will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, at The Powelton Club, located at 29 Balmville Road in Newburgh. It is attended every year by more than 100 professionals and business people from Orange County, neighboring counties, and beyond.

Volpe served as board president for Orange AHRC and was instrumental in helping the organization acquire its first residence and, later, its administrative center in Newburgh. He was an active community member of the City of Newburgh, the owner of W.A. Volpe Company for 40 years, and a member of the board of directors of The Powelton Club, where he and his family were longtime members.

The tournament entry fee is $200 per golfer and includes the greens fee, cart, gift, lunch, cocktails, and dinner. To register or become a sponsor, call Joan at 845-796-1350 ext. 1050.

The Arc Sullivan-Orange Counties is the not-for-profit agency resulting from the merger of Sullivan Arc and The Arc of Orange County. The organization has supported people with developmental disabilities, including autism and Down syndrome, for 70 years.
