Ride/Walk-A-Thon to benefit therapeutic center

WARWICK-Winslow Therapeutic Center will host a Ride-A-Thon or Walk-A-Thon on Sunday, Oct. 9, at Warwick County Park in Warwick. The center uses the movement of the horse in the healing process to aid children who cannot walk or are emotionally disturbed. Riding a trained horse, who seems to instinctively know the passenger is special, lets trust and friendship begin. Physically, the movement of the horse strengthens and stretches muscles, improves balance and coordination, and encourages learning. The benefits are physical, cognitive, and psychosocial. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the Alison Klepper Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships for children to attend the center’s programs. Horseback riding on the trails in the 800-acre Warwick County Park will be exclusive on the day of the event. The Ride-A-Thon and Walk-A-Thon begins at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. respectively. The minimum pledge to walk is $25, and the minimum pledge to ride is $50. To ride, participants must bring their own horse. Lunch will be provided, along with music by D.J. Dean, and prizes will be awarded to high fundraisers. For more information, call 986-6686 or visit www.winslow.org.
