Wolfies of Warwick opens grandly
WARWICK — Moshe Schwartzberg, owner of Forever Jewelers, former Merchant Guild president and the fellow who officiates at the annual Menorah lighting in Lewis Park was born in Israel. And, what many people may not know, after emigrating to the United States, he spent 10 years working as a chef.
On Nov. 5, Mayor Michael Newhard, Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce President Doug Stage and members of the Chamber Board of Directors joined Schwartzberg, his family, staff and friends for the grand opening of Wolfies of Warwick.
Wolfies, 38 Main St., offers homemade chicken soup, falafel platter and Israeli salad. There's also a special "Wolf Club" menu for younger patrons.
The Olde World sandwich shop with a modern twist is the creation of Schwartzberg and his family, using recipes that he learned from his father and grandfather, butchers and meat buyers, who trained in Europe and Israel.
Wolfies, located next to Forever Jewelers, serves pastrami, corned beef, Italian beef, Cubano sandwiches, brisket, Reubens, falafel and more.
"We just don't offer good sandwiches," said Schwartzberg, "We make great sandwiches."
He added that everything, including the corned beef, is made from scratch and with fresh ingredients.
Although there are several different businesses and restaurants named Wolfie's, Schwartzberg and his daughter Sarah coined this name from that of her three-year old son's middle name, Wolf.
Wolfie's provides table as well as take-out service and outdoor seating with quality tables and chairs a la European bistros.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday.
