Welcome to the Haunted House
Warwick. Fund raiser at Warwick Valley Community Center will be held Oct. 18, 19 and 20.
The Warwick Valley Community Center will host its annual Haunted House fund raiser next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18, 19 and 20.
Local artists, performers and student volunteers turn the 1920s former schoolhouse into a multiroom, interactive horror show.
This year’s theme, The Curse of Blackstone Manor, tells the story of a Robber Baron who made his fortune off the sweat of workers in his coalmines. It features three floors of haunts, including an abandoned mine shaft, séance room and nursery from hell.
“The show is always truly original,” said Melissa ShawSmith, the artistic director of Wickham Works who produces the event. “The students, many of whom have been performing with us for the last four years, bring lots of creepy inspiration to the table.”
This year’s acting talent will be directed by Will O’Dell from Acting Out Playhouse; artist Karen Decher is the lead designer for the gothic sets.
Anyone can drop by the OpenDoor Makers Lab held every Tuesday night at the Community Center from 6 to 8 p.m. to help build sets and props. And volunteers are always welcome to help out with the show.
