Warwick Valley Auto Body severely damaged in two-alarm fire Sunday
Warwick. No injuries were reported in the two-alarm fire that shut down parts of Main Street in the Village of Warwick Sunday night and left Warwick Valley Auto Body severely damaged.
A two-alarm fire shut down parts of Main Street in the Village of Warwick on Sunday night and left a local business severely damaged, fire officials said.
According to Warwick Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Michael Contaxis, the department responded to a report of a commercial structure fire at Warwick Valley Auto Body about 7 p.m.
There was heavy smoke coming from the building upon arrival, and fire crews transmitted the second alarm at that time, the department said.
Main Street was closed from Colonial Avenue to West Street until the scene was cleared.
“The fire was located in the truck bay area,” Contaxis said. “There were approximately six vehicles inside and extensive damage due to heat, smoke and water damage.”
The Orange County Fire Investigation Unit concluded that the fire probably began in the shop area and was most likely caused by the waste oil burner that heats that area, Contaxis said.
The auto body shop was not open because it is normally closed on Sundays.
No one was inside the building at the time, and there were no injuries reported, Contaxis said.
In addition to the Warwick Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit, Warwick Police, Warwick Ambulance, and fire companies from Florida, Monroe and Chester all responded to the scene, Contaxis said. Fire companies from Pine Island and Greenwood Lake were ready to assist on standby.
Warwick Valley Auto Body is located at 73 Main Street.
