Warwick. The Battle of Minisink (1779) commemorated with three ceremonies this weekend
On Saturday July 22nd and Sunday, July 23rd, the annual commemorations for our community’s most devastating event of the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Minisink on July 22, 1779, will be held.
Forty six men of the region were killed outright or murdered while lying wounded. The 4th Orange County regiment was at weak strength due to having to guard hundreds of prisoners from the Battle of Stony Point on their march to Easton, but responded as best they could, along with Goshen’s 3rd regiment and other regional units.
Warwick’s John Hathorn ended up commanding, being the senior officer who showed up.
This year Sue Gardner will give the speech at the Battlefield Park about “The Survivors.”
There are three ceremonies to honor the fallen, all are free and open to the public:
