— The Warwick Rotary End of Summer Luau Party committee couldn’t have asked for better weather.
On Saturday evening, Sept. 15, approximately 200 guests gathered both outside and inside under a huge tent to enjoy a festive and well organized event with a Hawaiian Luau theme featuring professional hula dancers, a pig roast and buffet dinner, beer and wine, a Hawaiian signature drink, festive decorations, music and dancing.
The luau took place at the picturesque lakeside section of the new Wickham Woodlands Park in the former Mid-Orange Correctional facility.
Everyone was able to enjoy a spectacular view at sunset as well as a mild moonlit summer evening under the stars. .
Inspired by a recent trip to Hawaii, committee member Marge King-Porter, spent hours crafting all the decorations including table cloths printed with hibiscus flowers and candle lit center pieces made out of colored tissue paper. Live palm fronds were centered under the tissue flowers.
Jansens Nursery donated the plants; the Tiki carvings were made by Paul Schmidt, a Rotarian from Greenwood Lake.
BBQ Specialists of the Hudson Valley received numerous kudos for catering the event and a highlight of the evening was the presentation of two roasted and decorated pigs.
Warwick Rotarians are known for hosting successful community fund raisers to benefit local non-profit organizations.
However, this first annual End of Summer Party was designed as a break-even event to encourage and promote the establishment of an ongoing annual event that would also serve as a fund raiser.
