This year for the National Day of Service, the Warwick Valley Rotary Club is partnering with the Warwick Historical Society (WHS) on a restoration project of the old Union African Methodist Episcopalian (UAME) church on Forester Avenue in Warwick.
The collaboration, held on Saturday, May 6, and then again on Saturday, May 20, will add to the preservation of the important historic building, constructed in 1906 and moved to its current location through a community-wide effort in 2007.
The Warwick Valley Rotary Club is a local chapter of Rotary International, an organization comprised of individuals who share a passion and commitment to enhancing communities and improving lives. The Warwick Historical Society has been dedicated to preserving, sharing and celebrating the history of the Town of Warwick since its inception in 1906.
The collaborative effort of these two civic organizations will ensure that the landmark building remains preserved for generations.
Roe Brothers Lumber of Florida has supported the project with a $500 donation toward materials while the Rotary Club made a $500 donation toward the cost of supplies.
Members of the Rotary Club and the WHS will be working together, and volunteers from the community are welcome to assist with the prepping, cleaning and painting days, scheduled to take place on May 6 and 20 (rain dates May 7 and May 21). T
he two organizations also hope to complete painting the fence at Lewis Park, the beautiful green in the middle of the Village of Warwick.
Everyone is welcome to volunteer for these projects, and volunteer sign-up may be found at www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0944a9a62aabfdc34-uame#/, or call 845-986-323 or visit warwickhistory.org for more information.
