Warwick Lions Club hosts Lon Tytell Day

WARWICK — On Saturday, March 25, the Warwick Lions Club celebrated “Lon Tytell Day,” at the Senior Citizen Center.
Tytell, who is currently a reporter and photographer for the Warwick Valley Dispatch, and his wife, Rosita, will be moving to North Carolina in May.
During the celebration Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton issued a proclamation and State Sen. John Bonacic and Mayor Michael Newhard, issued special recognition certificates. They praised Tytell for the projects he initiated and chaired in both the Jaycees and Lions.
Years of volunteer workHe also received a plaque issued jointly by The Town of Warwick and The Warwick Lions celebrating his 40 years of volunteer work in the Warwick community.
Tytell has been a volunteer since joining the Jaycees in 1975 and the Lions Club in 1978. He had served as president of both organizations and was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1991
Before joining The Warwick Valley Dispatch, Tytell was an elementary school teacher in the Warwick Valley School District.
During that 35-year career he served on several committees that helped improve education in this community. And with the cooperation of volunteers from the Warwick Historical Society he began the annual fourth grade tour of the historic houses in Warwick.
He also initiated a bicycle safety program with the Warwick Police.
Tytell also served in the Army Reserves for 23 years ,retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
“It was a pleasure meeting so many volunteers in the Warwick Jaycees, Warwick Lions, other organizations and citizens who care about their community,” Tytell said. “It was also a pleasure working with so many teachers, staff, and supporting staff who cared about each individual student in the Warwick Valley School District, making Warwick one of the outstanding school districts in Orange County.
