Warwick Historical Society to host a community conversation for kids on Nov. 7

WARWICK — The Warwick Historical Society, in partnership with Family Central, will host Building Compassion: A Community Conversation for Kids on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Two sessions are being offered, a morning one at 10:30 a.m. and an afternoon session at 1:30 p.m.
This event was made possible by a grant from Humanities New York.
This event, utilizing Patricia Polacco's highly acclaimed children's book, "Thank you, Mr. Falker," focuses on building compassion in children as well as the effects of bullying.
Polacco is now one of America's most loved children's book creators, but once upon a time, she was a little girl named Trisha starting school. Trisha could paint and draw beautifully, but when she looked at words on a page, all she could see was jumble. It took a very special teacher to recognize little Trisha's dyslexia: Mr. Falker, who encouraged her to overcome her reading disability.
Something for children, something for adultsFor children this guided conversation is will provide a comfortable setting for teaching about bullying, learning disabilities and even asking for help.
Adults in attendance will learn how to be a better leader to the children around us, whether we are a parent, grandparent, or just a citizen.
Community Conversations provide an opportunity for people to come together for thoughtful discussion about our shared values as Americans — past, present, and future. Focused on central themes in American life such as friendship, compassion and democracy, Community Conversations allow participants to join in discussions that offer an alternative to received wisdom and provide the chance to take part in a shared dialogue.
