Warwick. HERoes In Deed do double duty helping restaurants, medical staff
HERoes In Deed has found a way to help the Warwick community in two ways.
This non-profit organization, inspired by the life of Warwick resident Lieutenant Colonel Jaimie E. Leonard, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2013, has taken $5,000 and dispersed it to 10 local restaurants as a catering fee.
The restaurants, which include Caffe ala Mode, Halligan’s Pennings, Tuscan Café, Yesterday’s Galloway Grill, Crystal Inn, Iron Forge Inn, Sugar Loaf Taphouse and Conscious Fork, in turn, sign up on the meal chain and make meals for the frontline HERoes at St. Anthony Community Hospital, Mt. Alverno Center and Shervier Pavilion.
According to Kelly Ferretti, who works with HERoes In Deed, the meals have been distributed over the past two weeks and will continue until May 1. The restaurant owners decide whether they will provide lunch or supper to a shift of workers at one of the three locations.
“We wanted to help the community,” said Ferretti. “This way, we are helping our restaurants as well as giving back to our frontline first responders. Everybody is so happy and appreciative.”
HERoes In Deed has sponsored a HERo Run fund raiser for the past seven years. This year’s run, which was scheduled for June 6, has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though the group won’t be running together, they are encouraging everyone to run separately on Saturday, June 6, to honor Leonard.
Donations continue to come in to support the work being done by HERoes In Deed, despite the cancellation of the run.
Anyone wishing to donate to the group may do so at www.heroesindeed.org. The group has already set up the 2021 run for June 5, 2021.
