United Way presents Military Family Night Out
WARWICK. This free barbecue will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Warwick Community Center.
United Way invites all veterans, active military, family and friends to Military Family Night Out, a free, fun-filled barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Warwick Valley Community Center (11 Hamilton Ave., Warwick).
Supported by HERoes in Deed, the event will feature a performance by Alt-Country band, Jerry the Bulldog, from 5 to 7 p.m. as well as lawn games and children’s crafts and activities.
There also will be a commemoration of 9-11 with a moment of silence.
To sign up, go to uwdor.org/sept14bbq.
"This barbecue is a great opportunity local military families, veterans and the greater community to come out for an end of summer celebration,” United Way’s Community Impact Coordinator Candace Nicolett said in the press release announcing the barbecue. “It's a great way to connect and enjoy some local music and a home cooked meal!"
Featured musicians, Jerry the Bulldog, include singer-songwriter/guitarist John Irizarry, guitarist Kane Armistead, bassist Randy Sutter and drummer Larry Neumann.
Through its MISSION UNITED initiative, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region supports veterans programs providing housing assistance and legal advice as well as events like Military Family Night Out. Last year, local veterans and their families took part in the Community Heroes Project and they continue to network as well as volunteer in their local communities.
