Trunk or Treat event raises almost $2,000 for Warwick Playground Dreams

WARWICK — On Saturday, Oct. 28, ghosts, goblins, witches, an assortment of movie, book, cartoon and other characters assembled in the Warwick Middle School parking lot for the second annual "Trunk or Treat."
The festive event, organized by the Warwick Parents Facebook Group, collected $5 fees from participants and raised almost $2,000 for Warwick Playground Dreams. The group had raised approximately $1,000 last year for the Warwick Valley Humane Society.
The Warwick Parents Facebook Group strives to create a positive community of parents and hosts various events, fund raisers and activities throughout the year.
The beneficiary this year, Warwick Playground Dreams, is a committee of volunteers in the Town of Warwick who are raising funds to rejuvenate the aging playground in Stanley-Deming Park.
Working together with the Village of Warwick, the schools and playground design architects, Play By Design, the committee would like to bring a community-designed and community-built ADA-accessible playground to Warwick that will exercise the imaginations of all of Warwick's children as well as their muscles.
It's mission is to raise the funds for the materials and equipment needed to build the new playground under the supervision of Play By Design's Certified Playground Safety Inspectors.
The Trunk or Treat event on Saturday featured a costume parade and trunk or treating with the winners of the most creative trunks and costumes presented with prizes donated by local businesses.
