The haunting of the Community Center

Visitors to this year’s Haunted House at the Warwick Valley Community Center were treated to an impressive show.

The cast, led by William and Terry O’Dell from Acting Out Playhouse, featured special guest appearances from Tim Mullally from Style Counsel, and his son, Timmy, and more than 60 local students.

The intricate Gothic sets, designed by local artist Karen Decher, created a creepy backdrop for The Curse of Blackstone Manor.

A team of young set-builders helped construct a mine shaft that was the stuff of nightmares. Talented high school makeup artists completed the special effects.

“It's a three ring circus that somehow comes together each year,” said producer Melissa Shaw-Smith. “I think the cast gets as much fun out of it as the audience. Each night they improvise new scares. I have kids tell me that they look forward to taking part each year.”

The event attracted more than 500 people and raised several thousand dollars for the Community Center’s youth programming initiatives.
