The art that is Warwick
WARWICK — Final events for the 15th annual Warwick Summer Arts Festival, which began on July 19, were held on Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26.
Since 2000, The Warwick Summer Arts Festival has been one of Orange County’s premiere arts festivals featuring music, theater, dance, exhibits, films and readings in locations around the Town of Warwick.
SaturdayOn Saturday, July 25, at Stanley-Deming Park in the Village of Warwick, the Arts Festival held an all-day event that included both a music and dance stage, artisanal vendors, large-scale community art projects and food trucks.
Local performing groups included the Acting Out Playhouse, Hudson Valley Jazz Festival, Orange County School of Dance and a site specific work trio by Morganne Frazier.
New York City Dance Artists included Noopur Singha and Stryke Force.
The evening was brought to a close by an energetic and crowd-pleasing performance by Koncept.
SundayThe events on Sunday began at the Greenwood Lake American Legion with an all-day exhibition by Combat Papers, a project where veterans make paper from their uniforms and transform them into prints.
There was also a dance workshop led by Roman Baca of Exit 12 Dance Company and a Marine war veteran followed by a poetry workshop led by Iraq combat veteran Jennifer Pacanowski.
That evening the Warwick Valley High School Drama Club led by Noreen Hanson performed “The Iliad, The Odyssey and all of Greek Mythology in 99 minutes or less,” on the stage against a beautiful sunset at Thomas Morahan Town Park on the shore of Greenwood Lake.
“It was a wonderful 15th annual celebration, filled with talented artists, a hard working committee and stage crew,” said co-directors Melissa Padham-Maass and Marcela Bumpus. “We look forward to see what 2016 brings.”
Essential informationThe annual project was made possible by many local sponsors and a generous grant from Orange and Rockland.
