WARWICK — Eighty campers and three counselors-in-training participated in this summer's Camp Invention.

The program, part of the Warwick Valley School District's summer enrichment program, was directed by Middle School Grade 7 Science teacher Tracey Waters and co-directed by Middle School Grade 6 teacher Christine Chenoweth.

This was the fourth year Camp Invention has been offered by the district.

Inspired by the greatest innovators in the National Inventors Hall of Fame, instructors receive direct experience in how to integrate STEM content through real worlds challenges and hands-on, creative problem solving activities.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts are explored through these activities.

Children entering grades 1-6 worked in teams to solve real world challenges promoting critical thinking and communication skills that will prepare them for 21st Century college and career demands.

Projects involved taking apart items (hard drives, DVDs and VCRs, and many recyclables), in creating prototypes for their new inventions, and solutions to their challenges.

Camp Invention engaged students, and inspired them to be curious about the world around them.
