Saturday shoe drive for local girl’s science program and microenterprise elsewhere
Event providing curbside collection of shoe donations organized by Greenwood Lake nine-year-old girl to raise money to attend summer science program and to help small businesses in developing countries
Nine-year-old “Evelyn B“ is conducting a shoe drive on Saturday, March 5, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., at the parking lot of Greenwood Lake Elks Lodge # 2067, 35 Chestnut St. The amount of money collectedser depends on the total weight of shoes donated. Funds2Orgs will purchase all donated footwear. Those dollars will benefit Evelyn directly by covering the tuition costs for an educational summer leadership program in New York City, “Envision: Pathway to S.T.E.M.”
Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at this outdoor drive through event. All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school.
“I’m really excited about this shoe drive fundraiser! I’m calling it ‘Shoes for Science Camp,” said Evelyn B. “With this shoe drive fundraiser and my partial scholarship, I hope to earn enough to pay for camp on my own. “
By donating shoes, your old shoes will be given a second chance to make a difference in people’s lives.
