Ribbon-cutting held at future site of Greenwood Lake Skatepark

GREENWOOD LAKE — It's intended to make Dale Hirrel's dream a reality.
On Wednesday, March 28, at the CVS Field (Ben Winstanley Park) on Windermere Avenue in Greenwood Lake, the GWL Skatepark Corp. officially designated the future site of the "GWL Skatepark - In Memory of Dale Hirrel" with a ribbon-cutting and unveiling of a sign on the site.
In addition to board members from the GWL Skatepark Corp., there were also representatives of local Greenwood Lake businesses and dignitaries, including Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Councilman Floyd De Angelo, Greenwood Lake Mayor Jesse Dwyer and members of the Warwick and Greenwood Lake chambers of commerce.
The skatepark project is currently being organized and driven by the GWL Skatepark Corp., a fully registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2017.
The board is comprised of several business professionals, mostly local with the collective skills necessary to accomplish the task.
Within the team are marketing and design professionals, local business owners, skateboarding connections, including a professional skateboarder and several other highly qualified people
The skatepark is being dedicated to local teenager and avid skateboarder Dale Hirrel, tragically killed in a car accident, who never gave up on the dream of a skatepark in town.
"Kids need to get out and have an activity where they can stay off the streets," said Kurk Koziel, vice president of the GWL Skatepark Corp. "It's very important for them to have a place of their own."
The cost of the project is expected to be $300,000.
