Putting extra time to good use
Warwick. Learning a new skill and helping Warwick’s Emergency Medical Services.

Village Trustee Eileen Patterson, owner of Track 7 Postal Center, recently saw a post on Facebook indicating a need for homemade masks for hospitals and healthcare workers at COVID-19 testing sites.
She has sewing skills and decided to make some masks with equipment and supplies she already had at home.
Her son Shea, 16, is a sophomore at John S. Burke Catholic High School, which closed for the coronavirus epidemic but has been providing full-day classes for its students online.
“Shea,” said Patterson, “is also a volunteer with Warwick EMS. And he let me know that EMS (Emergency Medical Service) was running low on masks. Then he asked if I would show him how to make a mask.
"My husband, Jim, and I decided we would try and use his downtime learning different skills that he may not learn in school."Patterson added. "This was a perfect example. And we have about 30 masks made so far and will donate them to EMS.”
