Operation Clean Sweep begins Friday in Warwick

WARWICK — The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce annual townwide roadside cleanup begins this Friday, April 25, and continues through Sunday, April 27, with a variety of events and activities.

Warwick Valley School Superintendent Dr. Raymond Bryant, chairman of the Operation Clean Sweep Committee, will coordinate the event with Michael Johndrow, the chamber's executive director, and Warwick Valley High School student Julia Vargas.

Roadside registration and pickup

Various groups, clubs, and individuals take part by pre-registering their routes in order to ensure garbage pickup by DPW. (Please note that this is for roadside refuse, not homeowner garbage.)

Call 845-986-2720 to register your road in advance, or come in person on Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to noon to the Caboose at South Street to register your road and enjoy free refreshments.

Garbage bags and gloves will be available to anyone who registers and can be picked up at any time.

Other programs
Kevin Brand from The Computer Guy will be collecting electronic equipment for recycling at his business location, 14 West St., between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Warwick Valley Coalition will again be sponsoring an unused prescription pill drop-off in conjunction with the DEA between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Warwick Lions Club will host old eyeglass collection as well as a shredding truck in the South Street parking lot on Saturday, April 26, between 9 a.m. and noon. There is a suggested $5 donation per box or bag.

Leo Kaytes Ford is sponsoring motor oil collection and recycling on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its location at 145 Route 94 South.

Unused cell phones will also be collected this year in the South Street parking lot from 8 a.m. and noon, courtesy of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
