WARWICK — A festive crowd of 400 gathered in Winslow’s indoor arena June 3 to enjoy a social evening which raised $86,000 for local charities.
Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center and the Warwick Valley Rotary Club received a significant community boost when a sellout gathering turned out for the inaugural “Sunset at the Stables.”
The volunteer-driven event, chaired by Rotarian Leo R. Kaytes and Cindy Vander Plaat, offered valet parking, cocktails and dining, silent and live auctions plus dancing to music by CloudNYne.
A highlight of the evening was a horse ride by Heather Klippel, a young woman with cerebral palsy who credits Winslow’s therapeutic program with the courage and strength to pursue and earn a bachelor’s degrees.
VolunteersAbout 30 Rotarians and Winslow volunteers joined community businesses in transforming the Winslow indoor horse arena into the party venue. The facilities were power washed, temporary flooring installed and sophisticated color lighting added.
Marge King Porter and Patricia Lurye Dempster chaired silent and live auctions. Chris Olert served as auctioneer.
The co-chairs said their goal for “Sunset at the Stables” was to provide “an enjoyable evening for the entire community while benefiting the wonderful work of Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center, a non-profit organization devoted to the special needs community of the Hudson Valley, and the Warwick Valley Rotary Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a positive, lasting change to the community and beyond.”
The work and support of manyAll of Rotary’s share will be donated back to local non-profit organizations and for student scholarships.
Vander Plaat said she was pleased with positive responses given by those attending. “We appreciate the generous help from so many community-minded volunteers and sponsors who contributed to the success of ‘Sunset at the Stables.’”
Kaytes added: “I’d like to thank all our committee members and extend a special thank you to Cindy Vander Plaat for her organizing skills and doing such a great job on sponsorship and directing this year’s ‘Sunset Journal.’”
