Ninth annual Backpack Snack Attack Fall Fling and Fundraiser raised $12,000
Warwick. Event hosted and sponsored by Grappa Ristorante.
On Monday, Oct. 25, the ninth annual Fall Fling and Fundraiser, hosted and sponsored by Grappa Ristorante at 22 Railroad Ave. in the Village of Warwick, raised approximately $12,000. All proceeds will go toward the Backpack Snack Attack program.
Backpack Snack Attack is an outreach program of the Warwick Reformed Church that feeds nearly 300 children in the Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake school districts.
The church started the program in January 2009 to provide food for hungry school children to eat at home on the weekends during the school year when school meals are not available.
In addition to the dinner, the annual event, supported by many local businesses, organizations and individuals, completed a month-long raffle with the drawings taking place during dessert.
The nine annual dinners have now raised more than $75,000.
“The menu was a wonderful four-course meal provided by Grappa with all proceeds going to Backpack Snack Attack,” said volunteer Len Singer. “We are so appreciative of the generosity of Grappa Ristorante, specifically Tony and Nick, for carrying on this annual fund-raising tradition.”
The Backpack Snack Attack program is fueled by volunteers and supported by fund raising, donations and grants.
“We look forward to another successful year of feeding hungry children,” said Backpack Snack Attack Director, Jenna Price. “And we are especially grateful to all the local businesses and our amazing community who help make this event a success each year.”
Each child costs approximately $7 per week so the weekly cost is about $2,100 per week.
