— On July 10, local elected officials and members of the Warwick Valley and Village of Florida chambers of commerce joined co-owners Harold Knebel and Asad Riaz and their staff to celebrate the grand opening of their new Subway Restaurant.

The restaurant, located at 26 N. Main St. in the Village of Florida, features Tuscany décor, large seating capacity and outside seating as well.

The Subway restaurant chain is the largest submarine sandwich chain in the world, famous for its made-to-order foot-long and six-inch submarine sandwiches, which are served on a variety of gourmet breads that are baked fresh in each restaurant throughout the day. Customers create their own hot or cold sandwiches by choosing from a variety of meats, fresh vegetables, cheeses and condiments, while viewing the sandwich being assembled right in front of them.

“Our franchise has developed a reputation for serving high-quality food that is a healthful alternative to traditionally fatty fast food,” said Riaz.

In addition to submarine sandwiches, the new restaurant will also offer a variety of salads, flatbreads, pizzas, breakfast selections, soups and desserts.

“We are excited to be able to bring Subway’s delicious, fresh product to the people of Florida,” said Knebel. “We hired local employees and we look forward to meeting the residents and we invite everyone to stop by and try our world-famous submarine sandwiches.”

Riaz previously owned two other Subways, one located in Washingtonville and the other in Middletown. He sold those operations to give full-time attention to the new Florida Subway.

Knebel is a graduate of Warwick Valley High School. His father, Robert Knebel, owns a general contracting business, which has been located in the Village of Florida for more than 20 years.
