GOSHEN — Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus recognized National Nutrition Month last week with a group of dietitians from ShopRite stores throughout Orange County at ShopRite of Warwick.

“Eating properly and exercising is important for adults and children of all ages,” Neuhaus said in a press release detailing ShopRite's efforts. “They play a vital role in overall health and physical fitness. I applaud ShopRite’s dietitians for spreading awareness about these important issues and working with our residents to help them remain healthy and physically fit.”

National Nutrition Month is an education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The initiative focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. The 2016 National Nutrition Month theme is “Savor the Flavor of Eating Right.”

ShopRite’s team of dietitians provide free nutrition programs to residents throughout Orange County, including grocery store tours, corporate wellness presentations, individual and family counseling and associate programs.

The supermarket also assists residents with their diabetic and weight management needs. ShopRite dietitians reached over 36,000 residents in Orange County through their complimentary nutrition programs last year.

“ShopRite is very proud of the relationship we have with County Executive Neuhaus and we are thrilled he is joining us once again for an important initiative,” said Tom Urtz, Vice President of Operations, ShopRite Supermarkets Inc. “National Nutrition month is very important to ShopRite because it gives an opportunity to highlight the great service our dietitians provide year round. We take pride in the fact that we are able to provide our customers with healthy offerings, many of which are sourced from local farms.”
