WARWICK — The Village of Warwick in conjunction with the Warwick Valley Gardeners, Warwick in Bloom, the Orange & Duchess Garden Club and the Warwick Historical Society, is working with Heritage Landscape, Inc. on a Cultural Landscape Report focused on the formal garden adjacent to Lewis Woodland referred to as Mrs. Fowler’s Sunken Garden.
The garden was created in the Golden Age of American Gardens (1880-1920) and was part of the Fowler estate, "Belair." The gardens were intact until the 1950’s.
As part of the study, researchers are looking for visual reference that shows the evolution of the garden after 1920.
"We are hoping that we may find personal photos of family and friends that may have been taken specifically in the garden area," said Warwick Village Clerk Jo-Ann Rome. "All information is important to this effort."
The Cultural Landscape Report is funded through a grant from the Preservation League of New York State.
