Homecoming Day events precede a Wildcat victory over the Kingston Tigers
WARWICK — The cancellation of the traditional Homecoming Day parade along Main Street may have disappointed some local residents but it did not dampen the spirit of the Warwick Wildcats.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Wildcats defended Homecoming 2013 with a crushing 48-26 victory over the Kingston Tigers to improve their record to 3-1.
The weather was perfect for the annual Homecoming Day and although there were no creative floats, there was a parade line-up at noon at the District Office parking lot. And about 45 minutes before the 1:30 kick-off time the spirited and award winning Wildcat Marching Band lead the line of march along West Street Extension and onto Sanfordville Road, where the marchers entered the high school grounds and onto the football field. Students were encouraged to march with their team, club, group or class.
Many parents, alumni and supporters lined the field entrance to cheer them on.
The marchers then walked a pre-game lap around the field, ending with the Wildcat Marching Band playing our national anthem.
The Wildcat mascot was also there to greet the marchers when they arrived.
This year's King and Queen were A.J. Arias, a member of the Wildcat Marching Band, and Marilyn Lasalandra.
The annual Homecoming Dance was held that evening.
As reported on the school's Web site, the Wildcats moved up the state ranking to number 18 in the large school division. And Warwick will look to keep their perfect record this evening, Friday, Oct. 4, against Minisink Valley. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and all senior cheerleaders and football players will be recognized before the game.
