High Holy Days. Greenwood Lake’s B’nai Torah Shul offering free High Holiday services for all

As the relaxing days of summer fade away, the Greenwood Lake community at the freshly revitalized B’nai Torah Shul is hard at work in preparation for the High Holidays.

Beginning with Rosh Hashanah and ending with Yom Kippur these High Holy days are called the “10 Days of Awe.” They are some of the holiest days in the Jewish community. Time is spent in reflection as we look into ourselves and apologize to those we have hurt or offended in the past year.

At the end of these days, the Book of Life is sealed and we begin the “sweet new year” with a fresh start.

And B’nai Torah Shul knows fresh starts quite well.

Like many houses of worship, this nearly 70-year-old synagogue was struggling to survive only two years ago. Big changes were made and with a lot of passion, community support (and delicious food), new friends and faces are pouring in the doors each week.

“As is tradition at B’nai Torah, it is free to attend our High Holiday services so everyone feels welcome to join this warm, open community no matter their financial situation,” Executive Director Tepper Saffren said in the press release detailing the services. “And with our new growth, we are confident we will reach our 140 person capacity very quickly, so if you would like to attend, please RSVP ASAP online via our form found at bnaitorahgwl.org/hh

“We look forward to welcoming you into our humble home,” Saffren added.
