Hawelo Mediterranean Grill celebrates grand opening
GREENWOOD LAKE — On Sunday, July 27, Greenwood Lake Mayor Jesse Dwyer, Deputy Mayor Kelli Kelm and members of the Greenwood Lake and Warwick Valley Chambers of Commerce joined owners Jamie Hannoushe and her cousin Joseph Hannoushe along with members of their families to celebrate the grand opening of their new restaurant.
The Hawelo Mediterranean Grill, a Middle Eastern specialty restaurant, is located at 160 Windermere Ave., near the intersection of Route 17A and across from the new Optimum Store building.
Hawelo means "fan the grill" in Arabic and the restaurant's menu features charcoaled meats like kabab, kufta and chicken cooked on a custom made outdoor grill along with tabuli, humus, falafel and a variety of pita sandwiches and platters along with hot and cold appetizers.
Jamie Hannoushe, a resident of Greenwood Lake, was born in the United States but her parents emigrated from Lebanon. Her partner and cousin Joseph Hannoushe is a native of Lebanon.
"After many years of cooking Mediterranean food, specifically Lebanese style, at home for friends and family," said Jamie Hannoushe, "we finally decided to share it with the public. We have daily homemade specials and I truly believe once our customers try what our menu has to offer, they will want us to expand our menu and introduce more Lebanese style dishes."
The Hawelo Mediterranean Grill offers catering as well as take-out and delivery service throughout the area as far as Warwick and Monroe.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday through Sunday from noon to midnight.
