Brendan Hallinan of Greenwood Lake Troop 477 received his Eagle Scout rank at a ceremony at Grace Lutheran Church on July 21. For his Eagle project, Hallinan made a portable Gaga pit for the Greenwood Lake Youth Center.
Gaga, a form of dodgeball that originated in Israel in the 1970s, is played in an octagonal “pit.” Players hit and roll the ball with their hands to eliminate other players.
Warwick VFW 4662 Commander Dan Burger presented Hallinan with the Clayton Eurich Eagle Scout Award.
Other officials on hand bestowed a variety of additional awards on Hallinan: Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, a proclamation; District 8 legislator Barry Cheney, a Distinguished Service Award; Deputy Mayor Kelli Kelm, a certificate of recognition; Greenwood Lake Gaelic Cultural Society and Project Children founder Denis Mulcahy, a certificate of accomplishment; Greenwood Lake Elks 2067 Exalted Ruler Theodore Papienuk, an American flag and plaque; a representative for state Sen. John J. Bonacic, a proclamation; and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on behalf of Carl E. DuBois, a certificate of exceptional duty. Orange County Clerk Annie Rabbitt sent a certificate of recognition.
