It took all of 92 seconds for contest winner Rob Gillespie to consume an eight ounce onion supplied by Harvest Queen Farms.

It was a beautiful late summer day for Jimmy Sturr's Onion Fest on Sunday, Sept. 1 in Pine Island: Great food, great music and polka dancing.
It was also the venue for the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce’s annual Onion Eating Contest.
The crowd drew close to see who could eat an eight ounce onion supplied by Harvest Queen Farms Alex Kocot.
The countdown starts and what’s become a Pine Island summer tradition begins.
It took Robert Gillespie one minute and 32 seconds to win the 12th onion eating contest.
After the victory celebration subsided, New York State Senator Metzger and Assemblyman Karl Brabenec read a declaration proclaiming Onion Appreciation Day in New York.
It was, indeed, a beautiful late summer day in Pine Island.
