Be part of a new pilot program in 0range County: SAGE, Special Advocates for a Greater Education.
This program is a collaboration between the Dispute Resolution Center and the Children’s Rights Society of Orange County.
Volunteer mentors are needed to be an educational advocate for children in foster care. The purpose of the program is to help the child be more successful in school. Research confirms that children in foster care have the poorest educational outcome of any other peer group, are far less likely to graduate high school, and even less likely to enter college.
As a SAGE mentor, you can help change the path of a foster child. Mentors meet with their child one time a week and focus on one-to-one educational support.
Due to the pandemic, all training and child contact are done virtually. A minimum of one year commitment is required.
Are you, or anyone you know including high school and college students, interested in becoming a SAGE mentor? For more information, please SAGE Coordinator Patricia Asprea-Wright by phone or text 845-551-3223 or at tawright@childrensrightsinc.org.
